Boating in Ticonderoga
Ticonderoga – it’s name translated means the place between two waters. The Ticonderoga area offers access to Lake George, Lake Champlain, and Eagle Lake. The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC) provides boat launching facilities at each of these locations. Ticonderoga’s lakes offer great fishing and great fun on the water.
Lake George – Mossy Point
Lake George is accessed at the Mossy Point Boat Launch site on Black Point Road approximately 2-miles south of Ticonderoga and on the east shore of Lake George. This hard-ramp launch is close to town, but far enough away that it’s a quiet spot to launch onto the north end of Lake George. There is room for 100 boats and trailers with a boat pumpout and hard ramp.
This boat launch on the shore of Mossy Point is part of the Henry Knox Cannon Trail Monuments in New York. Early in the American Revolutionary War, Colonel Henry Knox’s “noble train of artillery” went from Crown Point to the Continental Army camp outside Boston, Massachusetts. Now, it is a network of roads and paths to commemorate this heroic deed.
Lake Champlain – Fort Ticonderoga
Lake Champlain is accessed at the Fort Ticonderoga Boat Launch site on the Fort Ti Road adjacent to the Fort Ti Ferry which links Ticonderoga and Shoreham, VT. This site contains a hard surface ramp with parking for 52 cars and trailers. It is handicap accessible.
Eagle Lake – NY74
Eagle Lake has a smaller boat launch area on NYS Route 74 and allows access to only top of car type water craft. This boat launch is located 1 mile west of the hamlet of Eagle Lake. This gravel launch is on the left if coming from Ticonderoga. It consists of a beach launch with parking for six cars. This launch is not large, so use caution when backing into the water. Be advised that access to main lake is limited by 3-4′ depending on lake level, and there are many rocks near the culvert.
